Background
Sweett Group, formerly known as Cyril Sweett, is an international building and infrastructure professional services business. It was founded in 1928 by Cyril Sweett who was cited in Building Magazine’s Hall of Fame as among the 20 most influential people in the construction industry. In the 1930s Mendelsohn and Cyril Sweett were active founding members of the Mars Group which had an important influence on the modern Architecture movement. Cyril was involved in some high profile architectural buildings such as 26 St James’s Place, Green Park, designed by Sir Denys Lasdun & Partners; American Embassy, Grosvenor Square, designed by Eero Saarinen; The London Pavilion designed by Chapman Taylor Partners.
Then operating under the corporate name Cyril Sweett, the Group existed on London's AIM stock exchange in 2007, raising £26m and valuing the business at £61m.[1] The Group initially expanded throughout the UK and then internationally, with the acquisition of a number of cost management and project management firms, including Burns Bridge,[2] an Australian-based project management firm and in July 2010, Widnell Ltd, the biggest independent cost management firm[3] in Asia. The organisation was rebranded as Sweett Group in July 2011,[4] consolidating the Group's existing brands.[5]
The Group went on to form two North American joint venture partnerships, the first in the United States with VVA (operating as VVA Sweett) in 2012; the second with Pelican Woodcliff in Canada (operating as Pelican Woodcliff Sweett) in 2015.
In October 2015, the company announced the sale of its Asia Pacific and Indian business, for £9.3 million in cash (before transaction and separation costs), in line with strategic goals to improve Group's profitability and cash flow.
