Sony Max is a Hindi movie channel launched by Sony Pictures Networks India. The channel started broadcasting in December 1999.[1] It launched its HD feed on 25 December 2015.[2][3] Its main audience attraction, other than Hindi movies, is the Twenty20 cricket tournament Indian Premier League, which the channel has been broadcasting since the tournament's launch in 2008.

It is supplemented by Sony Max 2, which launched in 2014 and airs classic and evergreen Hindi movies, and Sony Wah, which is a free-to-air Hindi movie channel launched in 2016 and available on DD Free Dish, the country's only free-to-air DTH platform.
