AXN (short for AXioN) is a pay television, cable and satellite television channel owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which was first launched on May 22, 1997. The network is now spread across several parts of the world, including Europe, Japan, other parts of Asia and Latin America. Funded through advertising and subscription fees, AXN delivers 24 hours a day of action TV series, movies, animations and adventure-reality and lifestyle sports programmes. In the United States, AXN was used as a brand name for the streaming of Sony's television library on streaming service Joost before it shut down in 2012.

There are various local versions of the channel, as listed below:
- AXN Adria - Available in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.
- AXN Asia - Available in Brunei, Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam
- AXN Beyond - Available in Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, and soon in the rest of Asia. In October 11, 2012 this channel is now known as BeTV.
- AXN Black - Available in Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
- AXN Brazil - Available in Brazil.
- AXN White - Available in Spain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Slovakia. Formerly AXN Crime.
- AXN Europe - Available in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.

As part of a brand licensing agreement with Sony, Canadian broadcaster Hollywood Suite launched an AXN-branded movie network in 2012 known as AXN Movies, a re-branding of its network Hollywood Storm..[1] The channel was discontinued on November 3, 2015, as part of the re-formatting of Hollywood Suite's channels to use decade-based formats.[2]
Series and shows
The series and shows aired by AXN differ in each version of the channel since some series aired by AXN in one market may be in other channel's hands in another country. In some cases, U.S. shows that are broadcast by local networks will be broadcast with dubbed (American Portuguese, German, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Slovak, American and European Spanish, Japanese and Russian) or subtitled ( Croatian, Macedonian, European Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian, Malay, Bengali, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Indonesian, Mongol, Nepalese, Urdu, Sinhalese, Korean, Taiwanese, Thai, Khmer, Laotian, Vietnamese, Dzongkha, Ukrainian, Dhivehi and Kazakh) in the same market. 2007 AXN India ban
In January 2007, AXN India was given a two-month ban by the Indian government for airing the programme 'World's Sexiest Commercials', the reason being the show was "against good taste or decency" and "likely to affect public morality".[3][4] The ban was lifted two weeks early on February 28, 2007, after AXN submitted an apology.[5]
On April 25, 2007, AXN and nine other cable and satellite channels were banned in Bangladesh by the interim government, which claimed that the channels' operations were contrary to the Cable TV Network Operation Act 2006. The ban on AXN and a number of other channels was lifted on May 27, 2007.[6]
