Miss América Latina 1989 was the sixth international edition of the Miss América Latina contest, and the eighth overall. The final event was held on March 3, 1989 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. At the conclusion of the pageant, Suzanne Hannaux of El Salvador was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Lorenia Burruel of Mexico.[1]

Historical Significance
- El Salvador placed for the first time, becoming the first country to win on its first placement, excluding the first two pageants.
- The Dominican Republic placed for the fourth consecutive time.
- Bolivia, Brazil and Peru placed for the third consecutive time.
- Paraguay also placed the year before.
- This marked the third time Panama ranked as the second runner-up. This stands as the highest placement for the country.
- Costa Rica, Paraguay and Brazil all earned their highest placements up to that point. All would later win the competition.
- Puerto Rico and Spain last placed in 1985.
- Costa Rica last placed in 1986.
