Historical Significance

  • Colombia and Florida also placed in 1983.
  • The remaining countries all placed for the first time.
  • This was the first of three wins for Venezuela.
  • This is the highest placement Florida would achieve, matched in 1985. It would also be the highest placement achieved by the USA (matched in 1985, 2005 and 2009) until their first international win in 2006. (Technically, the first two Miss Latin America titleholders, from 1981 and 1982, were from the USA but the contest was open only to Florida women at the time.)
  • Colombia, Mexico and Bolivia achieved their highest placements up to that point.
