1977-2006
In the 2006,[15] 2001[14] and 1996[13] state assembly elections, Gaulan Lepcha of GNLF won the Kalimpong seat defeating his nearest rival Norden Lama, Independent/ABGL. Contests in most years were multi-cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Nima Tshering Moktan, Independent, defeated Mohan Singh Rai of CPI in 1991.[12] Mohan Singh Rai of CPI defeated Tashi Tshering Lepcha of Congress in 1987.[11] Renu Leena Subba, Independent/ABGL, defeated Badrinarayan Pradhan, Independent, in 1982,[10] and Gajendra Gurung of Congress in 1977.[9][17]
