KGJT-CD, channel 27, is the low-powered MyNetworkTV affiliate for Grand Junction and the rest of western Colorado. KGJT is owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Group, which also owns CBS affiliate KREX-TV. Nexstar Broadcasting also operates the Parker Broadcasting owned Fox affiliate KFQX via a LMA.
History
The station was originally affiliated with UPN, until that network folded in September 2006. After KGJT's subsequent affiliation with the new MyNetworkTV network its programming became available on KREX-TV's digital signal.
On Sunday January 20, 2008 at approximately 8:45 am, a fire knocked KREX, KFQX and KGJT off the air. The station's building and 50 years worth of archives were a total loss. Following the fire, KGJT began to simulcast KREX-TV's signal, except for Colorado Rockies baseball games on Sundays. KGJT resumed a separate schedule with MyNetworkTV programming towards the end of 2008.
KGJT airs newscasts from its sister station, KREX. The simulcasts only include the weekday morning newscast (5-7 a.m.) [1]
KGJT transmits from on top of the Grand Mesa overlooking the Grand Valley. The transmitter is located at Palisade Point, rather than at Land's End where KGBY and KJCT-LP are located.
