Air India Regional is an Indian airline which was started as a low-cost arm of Indian as Alliance Air. As part of Indian's merger with Air India, it was renamed Air India Regional.[1] It operates 170 weekly flights to 25 domestic destinations as a subsidiary of Air India.[2]

History

Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. The airline was established on 1 April 1996 and started operations on 21 June 1996. It was wholly owned by Indian. The airline was renamed Air India Regional in the merger between Air India and Indian Airlines.

The airline serves Tier II and Tier III cities via the hubs of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai & Bengaluru. These hubs are connected to 26 destinations in India i.e., Agatti, Agra, Allahabad, Asansol-Durgapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Bhuj, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Kullu, Lilabari, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai,Mysore,Nashik. Pantnagar, Pondicherry, Port Blair, Shillong, Silchar, Surat, Tezpur, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam , rajkot .

Incidents

  • On 29 July 1998, 9 people were killed (6 on board and 3 on the ground) when Alliance Air Flight VT-EJW from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram crashed into the Component Repair Shop (CRS) building in the Naval Aircraft Yard in Kochi in Kerala, India.
  • On 17 July 2000, Alliance Air Flight 7412 a Boeing 737-2A8/Adv (registered VT-EGD) crashed near the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport in Bihar, India killing 60 people.
  • On 20 July 2011, Air India Regional Flight 9801, a CRJ-700 Registered- VT-RJC Carrying 55 passengers and four crew members operating a flight from Delhi to Kanpur ran off the end of the runway at Kanpur Airport but safely stopped. All passengers and crew,Survived, But the aircraft had minor damage in the overrun.
