Dunshaughlin railway station is a proposed railway station intended to serve the town of Dunshaughlin in County Meath.

The station is planned to be built as part of the second phase of reinstatement of the Clonsilla-Navan line but at present been deferred due to the reduction in the Exchequer capital investment programme. Dunshauglin will be the first station on the Phase 2 section of the route, after the M3 Parkway park and ride station. The proposed route consists of 34km of railway line with stations located at Dunshaughlin, Kilmessan, Navan town centre and a further station on the northern edge of Navan.

Location

The route for Phase 2 was not to be finalised until March 2009; it is intended that for the most part it will follow the disused route to Navan. However, there has been debate over the location of Dunshauglin station. Iarnrod Eireann, the Irish rail operator, favours the existing route, which carries the railway line approximately 1.5 km to the west of the town, on the other side of the Dunshauglin interchange of the M3 motorway. A group of local developers in County Meath would prefer to see the railway line realigned to the east, putting the station within walking distance of the town, then proceeding via a bridge over the motorway back to the original rail alignment. The decision on the eventual location of the station will be taken with the decision on the route of the line itself.
