Zelenodolsky District (Russian: Зеленодо́льский райо́н; Tatar: Cyrillic Зеленодол районы, Latin Zelenodol rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the west of the republic. The area of the district is 1,396 square kilometers (539 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Zelenodolsk[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[8] Population: 60,878 (2010 Census);[5] 62,251 (2002 Census);[9] 62,330 (1989 Census).[10]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Zelenodolsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The town of Zelenodolsk serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[8]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Zelenodolsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Zelenodolsk being incorporated within it as Zelenodolsk Urban Settlement.[4]
