Chronology

The Wright Pulsar is a bus body built by Wrightbus for the VDL SB200 lightweight bus chassis.

The Pulsar was launched in 2006 whilst the Pulsar 2 was launched in 2009. The first examples of the type entered service with Arriva's Arriva Buses Wales division in early 2007.

The Pulsar was launched at Euro Bus Expo 2006 as a replacement for the Commander. It was also intended to replace the VDL SB120 based Cadet midibus, but no shorter Pulsars have been built.

The first example is finished in Arriva colours and the livery is based on the livery on Arriva's "Bus of the Future" which was a Wright Eclipse bodied Volvo B7L in service with Arriva Midlands. This vehicle was registered CX07 COJ with the fleet number 2620 and is currently allocated to Arriva Buses Wales at their depot in Rhyl however it has since been repainted into the company's new "Interurban" livery.

A large number of Pulsars have since entered service with Arriva's Kent Thameside, North West, Midlands and Yorkshire divisions along with a number of other operators.

In 2009 the Pulsar was replaced by the facelifted Pulsar 2.

Pulsar 2

The Pulsar 2 with front and rear ends facelifted to match the Eclipse 2, was first built in 2009. The first examples had been delivered to Arriva North East and Arriva North West. The Pulsar 2 has since become a popular vehicle with Arriva and has entered service in many of the company's divisions with over two hundred Pulsar 2s having been delivered to Arriva North West between 2009 and 2013.
