Willis's first job as a radio presenter was working with Les Ross on a successful Saturday morning programme at Radio Tees. She became famous as a weather presenter on TV-am, before adjudicating on the game show Treasure Hunt, and appeared as a TV presenter in the 1988 film Consuming Passions. She is now a writer, public speaker and conservationist and has presented a weekly show on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. Willis has also presented with BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Although well known for her TV-am weather forecasts she is most proud of her work as a writer and as presenter of television programmes about animals, notably Animal Watch on TV-am and the Granada TV series Wincey's Pets. She appeared on BBC Celebrity Eggheads on 12 December 2011.
