WTIJ-LP is a broadcast radio station licensed to and serving Bryson City, North Carolina. WTIJ-LP is owned and operated by Grace Christian Academy.[4]
The station is currently Silent, though previously aired a Christian-based Full Service format.[5][2]
History
WTIJ-LP, Swain County's first FM station, launched at 5:00pm on November 27, 2015.[1] The station's studios are located Grace Christian Academy in Bryson City.[1]
Programming
WTIJ-LP carried a Christian-based Full Service format, featuring Positive Country and Southern Gospel music, prior to February 28, 2016.[1] Local news, weather and agricultural reports are also broadcast.[6] Live broadcasts of local high school sports, as well as community events, were also heard.[1] WTIJ-LP had plans to partner with other local organizations in the future.[6] SRN News was aired each hour.[7]
Silent
On February 28, 2016, three months and a day after it's launch, WTIJ-LP signed off.[1][8] Acccording to a letter written by former station manager Robert Lowe, to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Grace Christian Academy had "chosen to discontinue the service".[8] Mr. Lowe's position at the station had been "terminated".[8] At the time the letter was written, there was "no anticipated date to recommence broadcast operations".[8]
