Toonami is a 24-hour channel in India and a former block on India's first kids channel, Cartoon Network. Turner International India, a Time Warner Company, the owner of India's leading kids' entertainment channels, Cartoon Network and Pogo, launched a new action-adventure channel Toonami on 26 February 2015. The channel is dedicated to bringing high-octane animated action to kids, superhero fans and their families across the country.[1][2]

The Channel is distributed in India by Taj Television

Commenting on the launch Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of Turner International India, said, "It is a real proud moment for Turner to bring in a channel like Toonami to our young Indian audiences – we now offer a robust entertainment experience for all ages and interests. A highly successful international brand, it will meet the growing demand for premium quality action-adventure and superhero content.[3]

History

As a Cartoon Network block launched in 2001

Toonami , in 2001, was launched as a block on Cartoon Network, India's oldest kids channel. [4] .[5] It was a hugely successful block, and the first one to exclusively dedicate on action-adventure.[6] .[7][8]

Superhero Universe

Starting from June 1,Toonami introduced a new block named as superheroes universe,a weekday primetime block,dedicated to all mighty superheroes.This three hours long block features action-packed and over-the-top DC and Marvel shows such as Wolverine and the X-Men, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes II, Teen Titans, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Beware the Batman, and more on weekdays at 5.45pm to 8.45pm!

Anime siege

In April 2015, an action anime block, titled Anime Siege, was announced to be coming to the network. As the best Anime series on Toonami airing back-to-back. Packed with high-octane and top-rating shows, Anime Siege is dedicated destination for Anime enthusiasts aka Otakus. Featured shows include: Dragon Ball Z Kai, Beast Saga, BeyWarriors Beyraiderz, and Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy.

Reception

Toonami India Facebook Page which was launched on 17 December 2015 got more than 20000 likes in just 1 week[9]
