Terry Fox Station is a bus stop on Ottawa, Ontario, Canada's transitway served by OC Transpo buses[1] and named after cancer research activist Terry Fox. It is located in the western transitway section and is the main western terminal of new route 92 and route 96 for all trips not extended to/from Stittsville.[2][3]
It is located adjacent the Kanata Centrum shopping centre at Kanata Avenue and Earl Grey Drive, just east of the Highway 417 exit at Terry Fox Drive.[4] The station entered service in September 2004 with construction still having been underway at that time; it officially opened on February 22, 2005. Before the station's construction, a small terminal was located at Kanata Town Centre, located south of Highway 417 on Katimavik Road.
The station was needed as the Kanata Centrum was getting more and more popular, while the Kanata Town Centre was desolate for several years. Previously, service to Centrum was very limited, but the construction of the Castlefrank Road/Kanata Avenue interchange and Valour Bridge overpass over Highway 417 have permitted for several bus routes to serve the Centrum.
The station also contains a Park & Ride facility[5] to supplement the often-full Eagleson Station. Currently, no express service is provided at Terry Fox Station, but special AM trips on route 96 are provided as an alternative, and are signed 96D HURDMAN VIA 417 or 96D BLAIR VIA 417.[2] Effective 22 December 2014, new express route 64 provides express service nearby on Kanata Avenue, as an express alternative to 96D trips. Route 64 does not serve Eagleson Station or Teron Station.[6]
As of Friday, 17 October 2014, new local route 196 provides a connection to the newly-opened Tanger Outlets mall on Palladium Drive, across Highway 417 from Canadian Tire Centre. Route 196 operates between 8:30 PM and 10 PM on weekdays, and during normal shopping hours on weekends.[7]
As of 28 June 2015, new route 92 replaces all route 96A service.[8] Route 92 also replaces the 96 trips that started/ended at Terry Fox Station on weekends and on weekday evening before midnight.[3][2] At the same time, both route 92 and route 96 are shortened to start/end at St. Laurent Station and to travel via Tremblay to serve Ottawa Train Station between Hurdman Station and St. Laurent Station.[8]
