Tamilisai Soundararajan is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party in India. She is the current president of the Party’s Tamil Nadu unit.[1][2] She was a National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to this appointment. She started as local medical wing secretary of the party and rose through the rank to hold the current position. She is the daughter of Kumari Anandan,[3] senior congress party leader in Tamil Nadu.

Personal life

A physician by profession Tamilisai Soundararajan started her career as a gynaecologist and obtained special training in sonology and foetal therapy in Canada. She is the daughter of former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Kumari Anandan and niece of H Vasanthakumar.

Political career

Soundararajan became interested in politics from childhood, having been brought up in a political family.[4] She was elected as a student leader during her studies at Madras Medical College. Though belonging to a leading, traditionally Congress Party family, she was attracted by BJP ideology and started working full-time for BJP.[when?] She served the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit in various capacities starting from South Chennai District Medical Wing Secretary in 1999, State General Secretary Medical Wing in 2001, All India Co-Convenor (Medical Wing For Southern States)[5] in 2005, State General Secretary in 2007, State Vice-President in 2010 and elevated as National Secretary, All India BJP in 2013.[6]

Media presence

Soundararajan participates in political debates on Tamil-language channels, communicating the BJP message for 15 years.[7]

Elections

Soundararajan contested two Assembly elections and Parliament elections unsuccessfully in the past.[when?][8][9] She extensively campaigned in recent[when?] parliament and assembly elections across the state.[10]
