- This is a cruddy article, yes, but I have heard the term used often, so if there exists another article about 9/11 conspiracy theories, this should at least be made a redirect to it.--—JeremyBanks Talk 14:55, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

- I agree that the page should be nuked, and agree with Jeremy_Banks' suggestion--Truther should redirect to 9/11 conspiracy theories. (And probably 9/11 conspiracy theories should mention the term "truther", so people know why they landed there.) -- Narsil 05:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Truther Expansion
I had expanded the definition, perhaps too far at this early stage, and it was reverted. So I will try to re-build up the case for acceptance here. Words get co-opted and perverted for political and other reasons. I could list countless examples but I'll stick to these few: "atheist" is finally gaining respect for logic and reason, "anarchist" (and "socialist") is re-gaining respect after a century of political repression and demonization, while "conspiracy theorist" continues to be dragged through the mud, in part because there are so many types on so many subjects on so many levels. The "skeptic" label is not exclusively limited to those who doubt God, telekinesis, or other divine/magic/perception tricks, but is applied far less to skepticism about the secret deep state/fifth column [shadow government (conspiracy)|shadow government] (including the countless secret agencies and the military industrial complex), their government official stories (including covert ops, assassinations, false flag events, and the New world order (politics)'s goals of a totalitarian New World Order (conspiracy theory) via their secret TPPA and TTIP) and their mouthpiece, the monolithic corporate media. The rise of the internet info-age, increasing inequalities in wealth and justice, and profound unanswered questions about 9-11 and several crisis since, have fueled distrust in status quo leadership and institutions, the stories they tell us, and histories they sold us previously. The "Truther" term is now being adopted by those challenging conventional history providing insight and context into contemporary events. UrbanDictionary.com is NOT the most reliable source, but these definitions carry some of the nuanced variations that are missing from the Truther page. 1. One who rejects the accepted explanation of the events of 9/11. Truthers generally believe the U.S. government committed the acts of terrorism against itself. 2. Is one who rejects the official explanation provided for September 11, 2001. They include professional architects and engineers, scientists, and other scholars, firefighters, pilots, veterans, doctors, the victims families and people from countless other walks of life. People who reject the official explanation live in a paradigm that sees the mainstream media as a tool of manipulation for the masses. 3. A now stereotypical, thereby ad-hominem label for an individual who is sceptical about world events. Such scepticism largely emanated from the events of 9/11. Some individuals embrace the term while others see it as a convenient label to paint all with the same brush. 4. One who sees beyond the government lies at what government does. One who is not blind and ignorant. 5. A word for anyone who looks at a horrific event and sees a government conspiracy. 6. A word derived from the term "9/11 Truther". Used to describe someone who believes in conspiracy theories and has a distrust towards their government. Obviously there are better sources and references to research. For example, what initially inspired me was something (that I have to go back and properly quote) Sibel Edmonds said to the effect the she is a Truther for Everything, a truther for Pearl Harbour, a truther for Gulf of Tonkin, JFK, MLK, Oklahoma City, and all false flag events. I understand that this longer than intended "mini-essay" requires authentication references which I'll continue following up. It started with 9-11, propaganda, and governments hiding everything, but the Truther cultural phenomenon is growing perception awakening and extending beyond definition (or disambiguation (not this page)). - If you want to convert this page from a disambiguation page to an article, you'll need to provide sources that state what academics and journalists think, not your own views on the subject, and you'll have to do a whole lot better than UD. "One who sees beyond the government lies at what government does. One who is not blind and ignorant" is pretty obvious POV. Acroterion (talk) 02:52, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
