As of the census of 2000, there were 350 people, 138 households, and 85 families residing in the city. The population density was 423.3 people per square mile (162.8/km²). There were 159 housing units at an average density of 192.3 per square mile (74.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.86% White, 2.86% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.29% Asian, and 1.71% from two or more races.

There were 138 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.22.

The age distribution was 26.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
