Programming Linux Games is recognized as one of the prominent tutorials for the Simple DirectMedia Layer.
It is primarily notable due to the fact it was co-authored with Loki Software, a company that ported games to Linux between 1998 and 2002 and was the primary steward of SDL at that time. It was also involved in other development libraries and projects, such as OpenAL.[1][2]
With the agreement of Loki and No Starch Press, author John R. Hall was also allowed to release the book freely online, where it can still be accessed through services such as the Internet Archive.
John R. Hall died of cancer on September 17, 2005 at the age of 24.[3]
