Pitt's football team celebrates after winning the 2009 Meineke Car Care Bowl

Pittsburgh Panthers football is the intercollegiate football team of the University of Pittsburgh. Traditionally the most popular sport at the university, Pitt football has played at the highest level of American college football competition, now classified as the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, since its first sanctioned intercollegiate game in 1890. An independent for much of its history, Pitt has competed as a member of the Big East Conference since 1991.

Pitt has claimed nine National Championships, is among the top 20 college football programs in terms of all-time wins, and its teams have featured many coaches and players notable throughout the history of college football, including, among all schools, the eleventh most College Football Hall of Fame inductees, the eighth most consensus All-Americans, and the seventh most Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees.

The Panthers play home games at Heinz Field which they share with the National Football League Pittsburgh Steelers and utilize the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Performance Complex as their practice facility.

Pittsburgh Panthers men's basketball at the Petersen Events Center

The Pitt Panthers men's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate basketball program of the University of Pittsburgh. The Pitt men's basketball team competes in the Big East Conference and plays their home games in the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers have won two Helms Athletic Foundation National Championships, reached one Final Four, received 15 First Team All-American selections, appeared in 22 NCAA and eight NIT tournaments, and through the 2009-10 season have recorded 1,437 victories against 1,041 losses since their inaugural season of 1905-06. The head coach of the Panthers since 2003 is Jamie Dixon.

The undefeated 1924-25 Pitt women's varsity basketball team went 10-0 with wins against Cincinnati, at NYU, and at Temple who had never before been defeated on their home floor.

Pittsburgh Panthers women's basketball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's basketball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt". The Pitt women's basketball team competes in the Big East Conference and plays their home games in the Petersen Events Center. The university first sponsored women's basketball on the varsity level in 1914 and have appeared in five straight national post-season tournaments. The head coach of the Panthers since 2003 is Agnus Berenato.

Pittsburgh Panthers baseball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate baseball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt". The Pitt baseball team competes in the Big East Conference and plays their home games at the Petersen Sports Complex (starting in 2011). It is the university's oldest recorded sport dating to 1869. The Panthers have won both the Big East regular season and Big East Tournament championships, received four First Team All-American selections, and have appeared in three NCAA championships. 32 Panthers have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Joe Jordano has been the head coach of Pitt baseball since 1998.

Pittsburgh Panthers volleyball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt". The Pitt volleyball team competes in the Big East Conference and plays their home games in Fitzgerald Field House. Since the founding of the volleyball program in 1974, the Panthers have had 33 winning seasons, one of the nation's top all-time winning percentages, appearances in 14 national championship tournaments, and the most Big East tournament championships, eleven, in the conference.

Pittsburgh Panthers wrestling is the NCAA Division 1 intercollegiate wrestling program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt". The Pitt wrestling team competes in the Eastern Wrestling League and hosts home meets at Fitzgerald Field House on the campus of the school. Since the Pitt wrestling program began in the 1912-1913 school year, it has produced 16 individual national champions and 70 All-American selections. The head coach of the Panthers since 1979 is Rande Stottlemyer.

The 1912-1913 Pitt Band

The University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band, or Pitt Band, is the college marching band at the University of Pittsburgh. The band, which dates to 1904 and which falls under the auspices of the university's athletic department, includes over 200 instrumentalists, a majorette squad known as the Golden Girls, a color guard, and the University of Pittsburgh drumline. The band was founded in 1911 and has won numerous awards over the years. All members of the band must pass an audition in order to join. The band is currently housed in Trees Hall, however Pitt is in the process of building a new marching band facility.

Pitt Cheerleaders

The Pittsburgh Panthers, commonly also referred to as the Pitt Panthers, are the athletic teams of University of Pittsburgh. Pitt fields 19 varsity teams at the highest level of competitive collegiate athletics in the United States, NCAA Division I, which compete as members of the Big East Conference, Eastern Wrestling League, East Atlantic Gymnastics League, and Eastern College Athletic Conference.

The university's athletic program is one of only five current NCAA Division 1A schools to have won multiple national championships in both football (9) and basketball (2), and the Panthers have been ranked as having among the best combinations of football and basketball programs by multiple publications, including being listed as the fifth best combination of football and basketball programs during 2010 according to both CBSSports.com's "Flourishing Five" ranking and CollegeFootballNews.com's "Hoops & Helmets" ranking. Pitt also fields traditionally competitive sports in wrestling, volleyball, baseball, swimming & diving, and track & field; as well as nationally recognized spirit groups that include the Pitt Band and a three-time national champion cheerleading squad.

Pittsburgh Panthers softball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate softball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt", located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pitt softball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference and plays their home games at Vartabedian Field in the Petersen Sports Complex. In its short history, Pitt has produced two players that have gone on to play professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch league.

The inaugural season of Pitt softball was in 1998 with the program guided by its first head coach, Michelle Phalen. The program competed as an independent during its first season in NCAA Division I and then in the Big East Conference from 1999 to 2013. In 2009, Holly Aprile took over as the head coach of program. Pitt will move to the Atlantic Coast Conference where it will compete in softball beginning in the 2013-14 season.
