Plot

Amanda dislocates her knee during a school pep rally dance performance. She is rushed to a hospital where she is given the drug Hydrocodone for pain. Upon returning to school, she is later approached by Riley (Daniela Bobadilla), who asks her to share one of her pills with her. Amanda is suspicious, but gives her one anyways.

Later that week, Amanda starts dancing again, which makes Alexis (Jasmine Sky Sarin) a little jealous. While Amanda is waiting outside the school, Riley introduces Amanda to her boyfriend, Nate (Ross Butler), and her brother, Carson Israel Broussard. Amanda ends up hanging out with the group. Although Amanda is hesitant at first, they convince her to share her prescription meds with them.

Amanda ends up injuring her knee again and is given a renewed prescription of Hydrocodone. Amanda is upset when she sees Carson and Bridget together at school again. She begins spending more time with Riley who persuades her to go for Carson. While at an old lady's garage sale, they go into her house to use the bathroom and steal some Oxycodone from her room and run out. While under the influence of the drugs, Carson and Amanda kiss and begin to spend more time together all the while Amanda's tolerance for the Hydrocodone grows as she is shown taking the pills often. Unfortunately after her prescription runs out, she begins to feel sluggish and vomits.

The four get more drugs from a dealer after discussing the fact that they're suffering from withdrawal. She goes home with the gang where she meets Carson and Riley's dad Mark. That night, she has sex with Carson for the first time while talking about how he wants to pursue an education in film instead of business against the wishes of his father. They later attend a party where Amanda sees Carson kissing his ex-girlfriend Bridget. Amanda smokes a pill and begins balancing on the bathtub after Carson walks in. Nate tells him that Amanda saw him and Amanda falls, cutting her head. She is rushed to the hospital where she lies to her parents about what really happened. She is put on another drug but finds that it's not enough and texts Riley's dealer to purchase more drugs.

Amanda ignores Carson's attempts to contact her until her birthday, where he approaches her while making a homage to her favorite movie "Say Anything" and presents a slideshow of them together in an attempt to have her forgive him. Amanda is still very angry with him, but forgives him. Rick the dealer brings them drugs from Mexico to snort, claiming that it's cheap Oxycontin. They snort the drugs and Amanda gets so high that she is slurring. She proceeds to black out, only regaining consciousness on her drive home when she almost crashes her car. She is later at Riley and Carson's house snorting the drug when they suddenly find out that they've actually been snorting heroin. Riley, just brushes it off, and Amanda makes Carson promise not to do it again. She again suffers from withdrawals.

After hearing her vomit during dinner, her mother suspects that she has an eating disorder and takes her to a doctor who prescribes her anti-anxiety medication. Amanda's team decides to replace her solo with Ally on the audition, angering her. She finds out that Carson and the others have been doing heroin again and fools herself into believing that it can get her through her dance audition. They go to Rick to trade Amanda's anti-anxiety pills for heroin, and discover Riley shooting heroin. The others are worried at first, but later decide to try it too. While high, Carson and Amanda profess their love for another, and the group continues to drug themselves.

Riley steals money for drugs. Amanda's coach confronts her after practice, saying that she needs help. Amanda finds out that Riley was the one who stole the money from her teammates, Amanda's mom grows suspicious.

Amanda has a small seizure while high, scaring Carson and Nate. Amanda notices that Riley is bleeding from her injection site and is not breathing. They rush her to a hospital as Riley begins to convulse and foam at the mouth. After waiting at the hospital, Carson reveals that his sister died, leaving Amanda devastated.

Everyone is told that Riley died of a heart attack, though Riley and Carson's dad calls Amanda's mom and reveals Riley died from a heroin overdose, as well as that Carson is missing. Amanda's mom asks if she knew that her friends were doing drugs, and Amanda denies knowing anything, though her brother reveals that she is lying while holding her jewelry box full of drug baggies. Amanda storms out, driving away from her parents, and goes to Rick's house and asks him for a gram, promising that she will pay him back, but he refuses. Another dealer next to him says he can hook her up if she goes to see his friend—presumably in a situation similar to prostitution. Amanda declines, is informed that Riley was up for the idea, and discovers an almost unrecognizable Carson, who encourages her to do what the other guy says so that they can get high. Disgusted, Amanda refuses to do it and tries to leave.

Suddenly enraged, he shakes her violently, demanding that she does it so that they can be together. Moving quickly, she grabs drugs off the table and runs, but the dealer pins her against a wall. She manages to get away and make it back to her car with the drugs, but has flashbacks to when Riley overdosed, in fear of the same thing happening again. She returns home and cries to her mother for help, and is then sent to rehab. She is visited by Alexis at the facility. She apologizes for being so cruel due to the drugs.

Alexis reveal that Carson was moved to Florida and Nate is rumored to be dealing. She explains that the team received a second callback for their audition.

The film ends with the two taking a selfie, which then turns into a montage of pictures.
