Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Sa’id ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Ninowy (born 1966) is a Syrian-born American world famous Islamic scholar. He is the founding director of the international islamic organisation Madina Institute and Planet Mercy, which has its branches worldwide.
Background
Al-Ninowy was born in Aleppo, Syria. He is a Sayyid, a descendent of the Islamic prophet Muhammad,[3][4] through his grandson Hussein ibn Ali by way of Musa al-Kadhim. His family descends from the southern Iraqi village of Ninowa, where Hussein ibn Ali was martyred in a partial area which is also known as Karbala.[5]
Education
His education began under the tutelage of his honourable father Shaykh Yahya (Rahimahumullahu Ta'ala), under whom he started memorising the Qur'an and acquiring knowledge of the Islamic disciplines including Aqeedah, Fiqh, Hadith and Ihsan. He particularly specializes in the fields of Hadith and Tawheed.
Shaykh Muhammad continued pursuing Islamic knowledge from many great scholars who resided in Makkah, Madinah, Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Jordan and went on to study at Al-Azhar University at the Faculty of Usul-u-Deen, specialising in Hadeeth (PhD). He also holds a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Bachelors degree in Microbiology from the USA.
Career
Al-Ninowy has authored many books on the subjects of Usool, Tawheed and Hadith in Arabic, some of which have now been translated into the English language.[6]
Shaykh Ninowy is the founding director of Madina Institute and hedelivers the weekly khutbah (Friday sermon) and gives a weekly majlis (religious gathering) in Hadith and Tawheed in Georgia, Atlanta. He participates in many national and international conferences on Islam, world peace, and welfare of humanity.[6] He is the founding director of Madina Institute and been its foundation scholar since its inception.[7]
Al-Ninowy was also a professor of Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Georgia. He has also done extensive research in oncology (more specificly in breast cancer).
Personal life
Al-Ninowy lives with his family in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.[4][8][6] He is married and has two sons and a daughter. His brother (Shaykh Isa, an Imam of Masjid Al-Hamzah in Atlanta) and mother also lives in Atlanta.
