Monard is a planned new settlement situated to the north-west of Cork City in Ireland. It is expected to cover 966 acres (3.91 km2) and contain 5,000 new dwellings for 13,000 people as well as schools, a medical centre and other facilities.[1][2] It is expected to be smaller in size but similar in concept to Adamstown in Dublin.
Due to the fallout from the Irish property bubble, the development has been delayed, with full plans expected to be available in 2013 or 2014.[3]
The settlement is expected to be based on three villages and a town centre, built around the new railway station, located at Rathpeacon siding on the Dublin-Cork mainline.[4]
