Konak Pier
The Konak Pier was designed by Gustave Eiffel and inaugurated in 1890 at the port of İzmir, Turkey, near Konak Square, within the boundaries of the central metropolitan district of Konak.
It was originally built as a warehouse together with the French customs office on the nearby Pasaport Quay (1877) during the renewal of İzmir's portuary infrastructures, the construction works of which began in 1867.
The Konak Pier is reported to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel's architecture office. It was thoroughly restored starting from 2003 and was opened as an upmarket shopping center in 2004, featuring seaside restaurants and cafés. Since then, it became one of the landmarks of İzmir.
There are plans to extend the Konak Pier compound to include a large marina, once suitable adjacent space is made available.
