Kirsty Almeida is a singer-songwriter from Gibraltar, most known for folk singing ability and notably the sister of Spanish teacher Paul Almeida.

Biography

Almeida released her debut single Spider in 2010. Though born in the United Kingdom, she was brought up in Gibraltar.[1] She runs a musical collective, Odbod, in Manchester. Odbod have recorded music for London film project Patagonia.[2]

Prior to launching her career as a solo artist, Almeida sang with Latin band La Gran Descarga but "didn't want to become a full-time Latin singer... so I decided to go it alone".[3] She is an alumna of Bretton Hall's Music.[4]

In January 2010 Almeida took part in "Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake", organised by producer Joe Boyd at the Barbican Centre in London. She sang Cello Song from Drake's album Five Leaves Left.

Almeida has collaborated with Manchester artist Mr. Scruff on the song Pickled Spider, released on 30 April 2010.

Currently Almeida is working on her project 6 Degrees 2 Jools, an attempt to send her music to Jools Holland via six degrees of separation.[5]
