The King Alfred School is a co-educational independent school in Hampstead in North West London. It was founded in London in 1898. The school was radical for its time in that it provided a secular education and that boys and girls were educated together.[2]
Aim
Its aim is to "help train up its scholars in the way of the good life, to help to fit them for effective work in the world, for effective sympathy and for effective joy." (John Russell, Head 1901-20).[2]

The King Alfred School is a kind, liberal creative school that suits those who might find a more traditional environment oppressive. It is not a school for parents obsessed with league-table position or those looking for children who jump to attention when an adult enters the room. With pleasing results at GCSE and A level, the school prides itself on being able to teach to the highest standards. Personalised learning is the focus and parents feel happy that every child is treated as an individual.
