John Kingsmill Cavell (born 4 November 1916) was the ninth Suffragan Bishop of Southampton.[1]
Cavell was educated at Sir Roger Manwood's School and Queens' College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1940[2] he began his career with Curacies at Christ Church, Folkestone and Addington Parish Church, Croydon. He was then successively Secretary of the Church Missionary Society, Vicar of Christ Church, Cheltenham[3] and then Rural Dean of Plymouth before ascending to the Episcopate -a post he held from 1972 until 1984.[4] In retirement he continues to serve the Church as an Assistant Bishop within the Diocese of Salisbury.
