Jane Gray (née Cant;[1] 1 December 1901 – 7 June 2014)[2] was a Scottish-born Australian supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Australia from 15 August 2012 to 7 June 2014.[1][3]
Biography
Born in Newtyle, Scotland,[1] Gray met her future husband Jock Gray on a blind date in Scotland in 1922 and married him in 1927; having arrived in Australia they ran a poultry farm. The couple were married for 60 years before Jock died. They had two children, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.[4] Her daughter began taking care of her at their home in Smithfield, New South Wales in 2004. She described her secret to longevity as being "eat plenty and don't drink booze or smoke".[4]
Until 2013, Gray lived at home with her daughter and expressed her hope to become the world's oldest living person.[1] She then moved into a nursing home.[5] She died from natural causes on 7 June 2014, aged Script error: The function "age_generic" does not exist..[3] After her death Vi Robbins became the oldest living Australian person.[6]
