Indian Idol Junior is an Indian reality television singing competition. It is a spin-off of Indian Idol. Its first season began broadcasting on Sony Entertainment Television Asia from June 1, 2013.[1]The terrific talent of the idol juniors, the child protégés of Indian Idol Junior have redefined weekends by adding melody & masti to it every season.
Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi were hosts of the first season which was judged by music duo Vishal-Shekhar and with playback singer Shreya Ghoshal.The first winner of that season was Anjana Padmanabhan.[2]
A second season started on 30 May 2015. The new judges were Salim Merchant and Sonakshi Sinha, while Vishal Dadlani reprised his role as the judge. The show was hosted by Hussain Kuwajerwala and co-hosted by Asha Negi.
Season One
Anjana Padmanabhan was the winner of the season defeating the other three contestants at the Grand Finale.[3]
Govinda was a substitute judge for Shreya Ghoshal during an episode.[4][5]
Guests included Farhan Akhtar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra,[6] and Bappi Lahiri.[7] Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone featured as special guests to promote their upcoming film "Chennai Express".[8]
The top 11 contestants were invited back to perform for the grand finale. Shahid Kapoor, Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra were also present. Amitabh Bachchan gave away the first Indian Idol Junior trophy to Anjana Padmanaban.[9][10][11]
Season Two
Ananya Sritam Nanda was the winner of the season.[12] [13]
Shalmali Kholgade was one of the judges till the threatre round and was replaced by the famous Indian rapper and actress Sonakshi Sinha. Also, Kapil Sharma was the chief guest for the grand finale.[14]
It was aired every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 PM where the contestants took the nation by storm with their sensational voices. The season’s quotient got notches higher with the inclusion of actress, Sonakshi Sinha as one of the judges. With this, Sonakshi made her grand television debut. She was joined by Vishal Dadlani and Salim Merchant in the season . The handsome Hussain Kuwajerwala and effervescent Asha Negi were the hosts of show.[15]
The top 13 contestants auctioned in the threatre round were qualified to the next round where every one week, one contestant was eliminated.Finally,the Top 3 emerged for the Grand Finale from which Ananya Sritam Nanda was crowned the winner of the season.
