Hudson Place, designated Hudson County Route 736, is a 0.05 mile (0.08 km) long street in Hoboken, New Jersey that runs along the north side of Hoboken Terminal, providing the only automobile access to the major transportation hub. The street ends at Warrington Plaza, where the original ferry slips and main entrance to the waiting room of the station are located. The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway crosses the foot of the street.

Transit hub

For many years Hudson Place functioned similarly to Exchange Place farther down the Hudson waterfront as a terminus for many trolley lines which crisscrossed Hudson County. One of the few cobbled streets left within it, the streetcar tracks can still be seen. At one time more than ten lines operated by the Public Service Railway originated and terminated here, including the Hoboken Elevated. The last to depart was the #7 Jackson on August 7, 1949. The current bus terminal was built soon after bustitution was completed.

Between 2010 and 2011, the City of Hoboken conducted a two phase renovation of Hudson Place to address the historically high volumes of conflicting pedestrian and automobile traffic, further exacerbated by taxi, shuttle, and delivery activities that have increased in recent years. The project involved a redesign of the existing carriageway and sidewalks to better balance the demands of all traffic modes, reduce vehicle speeds at critical crossings, and to separate overlapping modes of traffic, such as the taxi stand from kiss-and-ride activities. The project was split into two phases - one for each block segment - and included a more efficient taxi stand, significantly reduced pedestrian crossing distances, over one hundred additional bicycle parking spaces including an on-street "bike corral", exclusive shuttle stops, and improved traffic flow. The New Jersey State funded project is considered a successful example of "complete streets" and has been featured as a low-cost best practice redesign demonstration.
