Highland Acres is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kent County, Delaware, United States. It is part of the Dover, Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,379 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²), of which, 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) of it (2.50%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,379 people, 1,254 households, and 1,005 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,162.9 people per square mile (836.3/km²). There were 1,293 housing units at an average density of 827.7 per square mile (320.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.84% White, 11.45% African American, 0.38% Native American, 2.57% Asian, 0.44% from other races, and 2.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.57% of the population.

There were 1,254 households out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.5% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% were non-families. 16.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $64,716, and the median income for a family was $71,974. Males had a median income of $42,841 versus $31,028 for females.
