School

Hesla High School is located at one of the Gram panchayats (Hesla) in Bagodar block of Giridih district of Jharkhand state of India. This school was started at the time (1984) when education in rural areas was not accessible to all who wished to study. Only one middle school was at Hesla. So studying further was a nightmare and the only people who could afford to go to cities were able to study further. There was no high school almost within a radius of 15 kilometers, and students used to come on their bicycles or by walking to the school. The school also helped girls to study further.

98% of the populations of Hesla and near villages are dependent on farming and that is their only source of income. In the year 2000 at this school the fee was only 25 RS/month and as of 2012 when inflation is on peak, the monthly fee for a student is not more than 40–45 RS, that is RS 1.73 Rupees/day/student.

There are around 500 students currently studying, where there are 9 teachers who are highly qualified and experienced since they all have got almost 20–25 years of teaching experience. The school management consists of some of the most respected and educated members of the village and due to their endless effort, the school has got some of its seven classrooms provided by local politicians. Now the school which was started under a mango tree has a roof over the students' heads due to the collaborative effort of some of the teachers and principals who donated their livesfor this school, committee members who supported during all the bad days, villages who donated their land for the school, and parents who supported this education system by encouraging their children to go to school and doing farming simultaneously.
