Google Assistant is an intelligent personal assistant developed by Google. It is considered an extension or cousin of Google Now and is currently in the smart voice-enabled wireless speaker Google Home, and the Allo and Duo apps.
It was announced at the Google I/O developer showcase on May 2016, and unlike its cousin, can engage in two-way conversations.
History
Announcement and development
Around the time that Google Home was rumored in March and announced in May, Google annouced Assistant along with various services, software, and apps.
At the end of May, Google assigned Google Doodle leader Ryan Germick and hired former Pixar animator Emma Coats to develop "a little more of a personality."[1]
Interaction
Google Assistant, in the nature and manner of Google Now, can pull information, check weather, and etcetera. Unlike it's brethren however, it can engage in a two-way conversation, using Google's natural language processing algorithm.
