Frankie Laine Time
Frankie Laine Time is the name of two different television series hosted by Frankie Laine.
The first version aired 1954–1955 and aired in first-run syndication in a half-hour time-slot. A public domain episode of this version appears on the Internet Archive and runs 26 minutes with commercials removed.[1] Unlike most variety series of the era, this show was produced directly on film, in the manner similar to Liberace. Both were productions of Guild Films, also responsible for Life with Elizabeth and several other syndicated series of the 1950s.
The second version was a CBS summer replacement series which aired in 1955 and again in 1956. According to IMDb, it was a summer replacement for Arthur Godfrey and His Friends.[2] A public domain 1956 episode appears on the Internet Archive with the commercials intact.[3] Running time was about 50 minutes excluding commercials.
Both versions were variety series, with Laine singing songs, and featuring guests. The summer replacement version featured singers, dancers, and comedians.
Those who appears as guests on the summer replacement version included Duke Ellington[4] Lillian Roth, Jack E. Leonard and Cab Calloway.[5]
The syndicated version was exported to Australia during the late-1950s, where it aired on ABC in Sydney and Melbourne.
