Francesco Maria Casini O.F.M. Cap. (11 November 1648 – 14 February 1719) was an Italian prelate, Apostolic Preacher and later Cardinal priest at Santa Prisca.

Biography

Francesco Maria Casini was born in Arezzo. Undergoing ecclesiastical studies, he entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in the convent of Cortona in 1662, later obtaining holy orders. During the years of his priesthood, he was sent often throughout Italy and France where he was appreciated specifically for his oratorical activity and the beauty of his sermons.

He became professor of theology, procurator general of his order and ordinary preacher to His Holiness in 1698. Appointed preacher of the Apostolic Palace during the pontificate of Innocent XII, he brought comforts to the latter pope when he was on the verge of death.

Created cardinal for his pious work by Innocent XII successor to the papal throne, he was proclaimed on May 18, 1712, and on July 11 of that same year he was granted the purple and the cardinal's title of St. Prisca.

He died in Rome, near the church of Santi Angeli Custodi. His body was displayed in the Capuchin church of the Santissima Concezione in Rome, where the funeral took place on February 17 of that same year. He was buried in this same church.
