Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College is a community college in Cloquet, northern Minnesota. The primary campus is in 38 acres of woods. The satellite campus is in Red Lake. It is the only Tribal and Community College that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System as the White Earth Tribal and Community College is not part of the system.
History
The Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee recognized a need for a community college as part of a comprehensive education plan in 1979. The Minnesota Legislature created Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC) in 1987. The Fond du Lac Reservation chartered FDLTCC in 1987.
Mission and Vision
FDLTCC's mission is:
- to meet the educational needs of a diverse population.
- to offer degrees at the associate’s level and certificates [1]
Partnerships
The FDLTCC was the only Tribal college created through a Tribal-State partnership. FDLTCC is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU), a statewide system of community colleges, state universities, and technical colleges. FDLTCC is a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), which is a community of tribally and federally chartered institutions working to strengthen tribal nations and make a lasting difference in the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives. FDLTCC was created in response to the higher education needs of American Indians. FDLTCC generally serves geographically isolated populations that have no other means accessing education beyond the high school level. [2]
Programs
FDLTCC offers 15 degrees at the associate’s level and 129 certificates in:
- liberal arts and sciences,
- law enforcement,
- business and human services
- clean energy technology,
- geospatial technology, and
- nursing.[3]
