The Federal Correctional Institution, Bennettsville (FCI Bennettsville) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in South Carolina. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also includes an adjacent prison camp for minimum-security male inmates.
FCI Bennettsville is located in northeast South Carolina, approximately 70 miles from Myrtle Beach and 100 miles from Columbia, the state capital.[1]
Notable incidents
In August 2012, Dawud Abdullah Khalid, age 37, was charged in a one-count indictment with escaping from FCI Bennettsville on July 17, 2012. He faces a maximum sentence of 5 additional years in prison. The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service.[2][3] Khalid is currently incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Marianna, a medium-security facility in Florida, and is scheduled for release in 2017.[4]
