Farzana Hassan

Farzana Hassan, also known as Farzana Hassan Shahid, is a Pakistani-Canadian author, speaker, and human rights activist.[1] She is a former President of the Muslim Canadian Congress.[2]

Hassan was born in Pakistan, and obtained degrees from Kinnaird College, the University of the Punjab, the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Phoenix.[3]

Hassan has written Islam, Women and the Challenges of Today: Modernist Insights and Feminist Perspectives (2006) and Unveiled: A Canadian Muslim Woman's Struggle Against Misogyny, Sharia and Jihad (2012). In her speaking and writing, she focuses on the treatment of Muslim women.[1] She is in favor of banning the burqa.[4]
