Durga Charan Panigrahi (Hindi: दुर्गा चरण पाणिग्रही, born: 29 March 1961) is an Indian mining scientist, author and director of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.[1][2] He is the winner of the National Mineral Award - 1998 by the Ministry of Mines and Minerals, Govt. of India for his contributions in the field of mining technology. His areas of research are Mine Ventilation, Mine Fire and sub-surface Environmental Engineering.[3]
Biography
Panigrahi was born on 29 march, 1961. He completed his bachelor's degree in 1984 from Indian School Of Mines followed by two master's degrees in Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management respectively, and doctoral work at the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad completed in 1994.[4]
Panigrahi joined Tata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. in 1984 as an assistant manager. In 1987, he joined Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research as a scientist, and joined Indian School of Mines as Assistant Professor in 1992. In 1998, he was promoted to full Professorship and in September 2011 became director of the college.[5]
Academic contributions
- Edited a book containing papers of reputed authors from 9 countries and the book has been published by A. A. Balkema, Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2001.[6]
- Published 63 papers in International Journals, National Journals and proceedings in the area of Mine Ventilation Engineering.[citation needed]
- Completed 8 research projects as Project Leader and Co-ordinator, and submitted the reports as single/main author and presently executing 2 research projects as Project Leader and Coordinator.[citation needed]
- Guided 6 research students for Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering, 11 students for M. Tech. in Mining Engineering and presently guiding 3 students for Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering.[citation needed]
