Derna (Arabic: درنة Darnah) is one of the districts of Libya. It is in the northeast of the country, in the historical region of Cyrenaica. Its capital is Derna. In 2007 the district was enlarged to include what had been the Al Qubah District.[2]
In the north, Derna has a shoreline on the Mediterranean Sea. On land, it borders the following districts:
- Butnan to the east
- Jabal al Akhdar to the west
- Al Wahat to the south
History
From 1998 to 2007, Derna District was smaller, including an area of 4,908 km2 (see map), and bordered the following districts:
