New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shingakki (ニュー ダンガンロンパV3 みんなのコロシアイ新学期?, lit. New Danganronpa V3: A New Semester for Everyone's Killing Life) is an upcoming visual novel adventure video game in development by Spike Chunsoft, and is planned to be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2016 in Japan. It is the third main title in the Danganronpa series and the first in the franchise to be developed for home consoles.

    Overview

The game has the same style of gameplay as the first two Danganronpa games, in which the player must participate in Class Trials to determine who among their fellow students murdered one of their own.[1] During the trials, the player uses lies to defeat opponents.[2] The game features updates to the Nonstop Debates, in which players may have to listen to multiple testimonies at once.[3] While the character of Monokuma returns, the game does not feature the Hope's Peak Academy setting of previous titles;[4] instead, the game takes place in the "Gifted Inmates Academy".[2]

    Development

New Danganronpa V3 is produced by Yoshinori Terasawa, and planned and written by Kazutaka Kodaka,[4] while the character design is done by Rui Komatsuzaki.[5] The game is being developed at the same time as the production of the anime series Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibōgamine Gakuen, which Terasawa and Kodaka described as being difficult; they still try to develop both projects without making any compromises, as such an opportunity does not arise often. The "V3" in the game's title was chosen to differentiate it from the anime; the "V" is short for "Victory". Terasawa and Kodaka described the game's production level as being much higher than that of previous games in the series.[6]

There was division among the staff in the development team regarding whether the game should be a sequel or something new; because of this, it was decided to make something that was both a sequel and new.[6] The game's theme is described as "psycho-cool".[2]

    Promotion and release

The existence of a third Danganronpa title was first teased in September 2013 with the announcement of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls.[7] In March 2015, Kodaka revealed that Danganronpa 3 was in early development.[8][9] The game was officially announced on September 14, 2015 at Sony's Tokyo Game Show presentation.[10]

The game is planned to be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2016 in Japan.[2] A representative for NIS America has said that they would like to publish the game in the West if they are given the opportunity to do so.[11]
