Conspiracy against the United States is a federal offense in the United States of America under 18 U.S.C. § 371.

It is a crime which must involve at least two people, who "commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose".

In the 1924 Supreme Court case Hammerschmidt v. United States, William Howard Taft noted that although 'defraud' "means primarily to cheat the Government out of property or money", it can also be taken to mean "interfere with or obstruct one of [the Government's] lawful governmental functions by deceit, craft or trickery, or at least by means that are dishonest".[1]
