Charles Boyer (theologian)
Charles Émile Georges Augustin Boyer SJ (4 December 1884 – 23 February 1980) was a French Roman Catholic priest and theologian.
Biography
Charles Boyer was born in Pradelles, Haute-Loire. In 1907 he entered the Society of Jesus and, after completing studies in Holland and England, was ordained priest in 1916.[1] He taught philosophy at the Jesuit House of Studies in Vals-près-le-Puy. In 1922 he was appointed professor of philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
Boyer notably edited the journal Doctor Communis. In addition to various manuals on scholastic philosophy, he published notable studies on St. Augustine. He also took an active part in the movement for the reunion of churches, with the journal Unitas.[2]
