Cathedral Academy (formerly Catheral School) is both an 11-16 voluntary controlled Church of England secondary school, in addition to a Performing Arts college with academy status. The school has places for 1050 students, and there are currently 997 pupils on the school roll.[1] Cathedral Academy has a national reputation for excellence, and houses a Post 16 Performing Arts Academy (CAPA) with 60 student places. The school holds the Artsmark gold award, and has won numerous Dance competitions throughout the country.

Ofsted

The school was judged by Ofsted in March 2010 to be "a good school with outstanding features".[2]

The school is Wakefield's only Church of England secondary school and was judged at SIAS inspection to be "outstanding".[3]

Facilities

The school is set out across two floors, and has a wide range of state of the art facilities available, such as a modern gymnasium and stage, which is used for the school's assemblies, CAPA performances and rehearsals and other major functions. The school also offers special technology rooms, filled with high tech machines, state of the art computer suites, and also contains smart boards and projectors in every classroom for visual learning styles. The school has specialist facilities for educating in Science, Resistant Materials with the aforementioned machinery, textiles, at least 6 different computer suites, five of which are dedicated for ICT and Business classes, cooking, and another for Technology usage such as CAD-CAM, as well as facilities and staffing for disruptive and violent children. In addition, the school boasts a large outdoor area used for both Physical Education and break times. This outdoor area consists of a large Tarmac area containing 2 Tennis courts, and a large field which is mostly closed other than for specific PE lessons which require it's use, and finally, fully kitted Dance and Music studios and practice booths containing Pianos, Keyboards, Drumkits and other high end equipment.
