Category:Tory MPs (pre-1834)
Members of Parliament for the Tory Party, ancestor of the modern British Conservative Party from the late 17th century to 1834. See History of the Conservative Party for details of the transformation of the Tory Party into the Conservative Party. It should be noted that before 1834 party lines were less rigid than they are nowadays, and the Tories consisted of a variety of allied factions, which had their own leaders and did not always stick together. Also many senior Tory politicians of this era were peers when they held high office, so they will not appear in this category unless they served in the House of Commons before inheriting or being granted a peerage.
For the post 1834 period see Category:Conservative MPs (UK).
