The creodonts were an historical order of carnivorous mammals that lived from the Paleocene to the Miocene. They are now considered a wastebasket taxon, and thus not valid, as the two main lineages within it were not closely related: Oxyaenidae was part of Laurasiatheria, while Hyaenodontidae was part of Afrotheria.
