Hitchcock was a recording artist for Mushroom Records in Australia in the late 1980s. She was well known for her very severe look; a bald head, nose ring and many ear piercings. Before her recording career she was a model and also part-time bouncer for various Melbourne nightclubs.[citation needed]
In 1987, she flew to London to record a cover version of The Temptations' Motown classic "Get Ready" with hit makers Stock/Aitken/Waterman. She also recorded "More Than Words Can Say", a Stock/Aitken/Waterman composition, for the B-side; a song originally recorded for Mel and Kim's FLM album, and later recorded by Hazell Dean. "Get Ready" peaked at #18 in Australia,[1] #56 in the UK,[2] and #47 in New Zealand.[3]
Hitchcock also appeared on the charity record to aid the Zebrugge Ferry Disaster, covering The Beatles' song "Let It Be". The record also featured many big artists of the time, including Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Bananarama.[4]
Hitchcock also did some acting in the 1980s, including an appearance in Prisoner in 1985.
