Carlo Monti (born 10 July 1990, in Glasgow) is a Scottish football player, currently playing for Pollok.

Club career

Celtic

Monti started his career with Celtic, signing as a nine-year-old and working his way through the ranks to the Celtic first team squad where he was earmarked as an attacking wing-back by the late Tommy Burns. He left the club at 18 to sign for Greenock Morton.[1]

Morton

Monti scored the first goal of his senior career with a 20-yard drive in the 2–1 defeat away at Dunfermline.[2]

Monti scored the winning goal as Morton avoided relegation, at the same time relegating Ayr United, on 1 May 2010.[3]

Monti rejected a new lower paid contract at Morton, and was eligible as a result to leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract.[4]

Amateur football

After leaving Morton, Monti left the professional game and played for amateur side Drumchapel United. However, he was convinced by new Pollok manager John Richardson to turn out for the Newlandsfield Park side in the junior game.

Pollok

In March 2012, Carlo Monti signed for Pollok and started his first match in their 5–4 victory over Blantyre Vics in the D&D Programmes Central League Cup first round, setting up four of the five goals.[5] On 31 March 2012, Monti scored a hat-trick against Kilbirnie Ladeside in the Scottish Junior Football West Premier League.[6] Monti also started in the crucial relegation decider match on 8 May 2012 against Largs Thistle and added another goal to his tally to see Pollok through to the play-offs. The highlight of his half season with Pollok, which saw him net 15 goals in 15 games, was a spectacular hat-trick versus Auchinleck Talbot which consisted of a 60-yard solo effort, a penalty kick, and an overhead kick. Monti netted twice, once in each play of leg, to ensure Pollok retained their premier league status.

At the end of the 2011-12 season he rejected an opportunity to move back into senior football in exchange for continuing his stay with Pollok, the club he credits with helping him fall back in love with the game. He started the season in the same vein of form, netting a double against Pollok's arch rivals Arthurlie and stealing the show in a 7–2 demolition of Glasgow Perthshire in the league cup. Scoring in Pollok's last game of the season, Carlo secured top flight football with a winner in the 84th minute away to Shotts Bon Accord. In his final game for Pollok he scored two and set-up one in a 3–0 over Ashfield in the Central League Cup final, as well as winning man of the match.

Dundee

On 10 July 2013, Monti was signed by Dundee after a successful trial.[7] He netted a goal in his first appearance in a pre- season friendly against Montrose. On 9 April 2014, he left Dundee.[8]

Pollok

On 11 July 2014, Monti returned for a second spell at Pollok.[9]

Zebbug Rangers

Having only been at Pollok for a short time Monti moved to Maltese club Żebbuġ Rangers in August 2014.[10]

Pollok

On 8 January 2016. Monti returned to Pollok.

International career

Monti has played for the Scotland national side at all youth levels from under-16s to under-18s, playing in the under 17s in Germany alongside Hearts starlet Gary Glen and against Thomas Müller.[11] He also made three starting appearances for Ross Mathie's under-18 side, in defeats to France, Turkey and a draw with the United States.[12]
