Carlisle College is a further education college based in Carlisle, Cumbria. It takes on students in the September and also the February of each year.

The OFSTED Report for the school was met with a review stating, "This is a really good college where learner achievement is high, which is down to the hard work and dedication of both students and staff.[1]

Courses

There are courses supplied aimed at 14 to 19 Year Olds, Adult Learning, Apprenticeships and Training Solutions for Businesses. Various courses are available under the City and Guilds title.

Engineering

Engineering has the highest BTEC level, with students taking part in the Level 3 course, having the opportunity, if successful, to continue their education on to university. The level 3 engineering course, which deals with pneumatics and hydraulics is taught by a former human–computer interaction manager, John Foster.

The mathematics department course tutors have 4 years of university experience and training, they consist of: Bill Hocking, the department of electronics teacher and Tony Fenton, a skilled teacher of magnetic dynamos and other electrics.

The workshop tutor John Wheatley, has exteneded knowledge in the core use of sheet metal work and milling machines.

There is extensive use for students, later on in the year, of AutoCAD and similar programs, for the reason of understanding how to input data from an analog source to a digital one, for ease of use in the modern world.

Apprenticeships

The college offers apprenticeships that enable those in employment to achieve an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 or 3, Key Skills qualification and a Technical Certificate like City & Guilds or BTEC credentials.

Hair and Beauty

The intake of students attending Carlisle College, that are enrolled in the Hair & Beauty sector, is approximately 30% of all attendees. The course allows both sexes to be a part of the course. There are two courses available, the level 1 or the elevated course, level 2.

All participants on the course are required to have a job placement to continue in the classes. It has been proven through statistics, that most hairdressers in the area employ successful students if there is work available.

The LRC

The highest level of the front, main section of the college, contains the 'Learning Resource Centre', a large computer room, study area and library with over 12,000 pieces of learning materials.

Redevelopment

The back section of the college, Block A, has been renovated to make room for a new outer building.

The college has been awarded a £3m grant in order to build a new "digital-and-creative-arts complex" aiming to be opened by late summer 2014.[2]
