CRRC Corporation Limited (China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation) is a Chinese state owned rolling stock manufacturer, and the world's largest train builder.[3][1] It was formed on 1 June 2015 with the merger of China CNR Corporation and CSR Corporation Limited.[1]
It has 175,700 employees, and has its headquarters in Beijing.[1]
History
CNR and CSR, once one company, were separated in 2000.[4] According to the official Xinhua News Agency, they account for 80 percent of the rolling stock on China's train network.[4] The merger was agreed in December 2014.[5] The merger came into effect in June 2015 after a month-long suspension of trading in the companies' shares, making it the largest railway manufacturer in the world.[6] In 2015, the company announced plans to expand overseas. In the United States, the CRRC is building a 14,000 square metre plant in Springfield, Massachusetts to provide new cars for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Red and Orange lines and secure more orders in the country.[7] Similarly the company is to produce rolling stock in Argentina for the region, as well as maintaining the large quantities of CNR and CSR trains purchased in the country, following the purchase of the Argentine company EMFER by CSR Corporation Limited in 2014.[8][9]
